Chasing the glow of the Aurora in Iceland

February 20, 2025 | busybee_devteam

Iceland is a land of magic and wonder, where nature’s beauty demands admiration. The aurora borealis, a mesmerizing dance of green and blue lights, can be seen from land, sea, or air—a breathtaking reminder of nature’s grandeur.

Chasing the Lights

Their Iceland adventure, led by architects Nikki and Jason Buensalido and friends, was a journey of anticipation and awe. As their plane neared Reykjavik, the pilot announced a possible aurora sighting. They held their breath, but the elusive lights kept them waiting. On land, they embarked on a thrilling chase, braving the freezing cold until the sky finally came alive with streaks of green and blue—an unforgettable spectacle

Beyond the Aurora

Iceland’s wonders extend far beyond the Northern Lights. Majestic waterfalls like Gullfoss, steaming hot springs, dramatic geysers, and the ethereal Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon left them spellbound. Floating in the Blue Lagoon, surrounded by mist and icy air, was pure bliss, while children in their group excitedly pointed out constellations in the clear Arctic sky.

Icelandic Delights

The journey was as much about flavors as it was about sights. They indulged in lamb shank, fish and chips, and hearty pub fare, though they politely passed on Iceland’s infamous fermented shark. The festive air, scented with cinnamon and cardamom, transformed the surroundings into a real-life Christmas wonderland.

A Priceless Experience

Iceland is an adventure worth every moment and every mile. Travel enriches the soul, and this journey, filled with nature’s splendor and cherished company, left them with memories to last a lifetime. If given the chance, one should chase the aurora, soak in the landscapes, and embrace the magic of Iceland.
